Police Investigate Alleged Overcharging at Hayathnagar Petrol Station

Hyderabad police have initiated a formal investigation following a customer's complaint of excessive petrol charges at an HP fuel station located in Hayathnagar.
The complainant alleged that the petrol pump attendants issued a receipt indicating 32 litres of fuel had been dispensed into his vehicle, which has a maximum tank capacity of just 27 litres. He stated that his tank already held approximately two to three litres before he arrived for refuelling.
When questioned about the discrepancy, the bunk staff maintained they had dispensed approximately 29.5 litres after the customer requested a complete fill-up. The customer challenged this explanation, pointing out that no tank could accommodate more fuel than its stated capacity and demanded proper verification of the actual quantity dispensed.
To resolve the dispute, the petrol station employees suggested measuring the fuel using five-litre containers. The customer, however, insisted on verification using a proper measuring cylinder to ensure accuracy. According to his account, the staff dismissed his concerns and asserted that their dispensing equipment was functioning correctly.
The customer further alleged that when he persisted with his complaint, the employees advised him to approach law enforcement if he wished to pursue the matter. He subsequently appealed to authorities to conduct thorough inspections at petrol stations throughout Hyderabad to prevent such incidents in the future.
This complaint has reignited public concern regarding operational irregularities at fuel retail outlets in the city. Previous complaints have included allegations of water contamination in fuel supplies and inaccurate meter readings at various petrol stations.
