Malkajgiri Court Grants Interim Bail to Bandi Bhagirath in POCSO Case

A Malkajgiri court has granted temporary bail to Bandi Bhagirath, who faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in connection with allegations of sexual assault against a young woman.

Bhagirath had spent several weeks in judicial custody following his arrest. His legal team approached the court seeking interim bail, citing his pending engineering examinations as grounds for the request.

The court, after hearing submissions from both the prosecution and defence, approved the temporary bail order valid until June 26. This grants Bhagirath temporary respite from his detention.

The POCSO case against Bhagirath was registered last month. Following the case filing, various organisations called for his arrest. After remaining inaccessible for several days, he turned himself in to police on May 17. Pet Basheerabad police subsequently presented him before a magistrate.

The Medchal court ordered 14 days of judicial remand, after which authorities transferred him to jail. Prior to the remand proceedings, officials from a Special Investigation Team interrogated him for over two hours.

Bhagirath remained in custody for more than a month before the court granted him interim bail.
