Congress Hails Supreme Court Decision on Caste Census as Victory for Social Justice

Hyderabad — Senior Congress figures have expressed strong approval of the Supreme Court's judgment endorsing caste census as part of the national census framework, viewing it as a pivotal development in the pursuit of social justice.

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mahesh Kumar Goud emphasized that conducting such a census is vital for tackling deep-rooted social and economic disparities. He noted that the Congress party has long advocated for this measure to be implemented nationwide.

According to Goud, party leader Rahul Gandhi underscored the importance of caste enumeration during the Bharat Jodo Yatra campaign. Goud stressed that the undertaking is fundamental to securing equitable treatment for marginalized communities and ensuring that backward classes receive their rightful share of resources proportional to their demographic strength.

Goud also highlighted the successful implementation of the caste survey in Telangana, attributing its completion to effective collaboration between government ministers and elected representatives working under Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

Government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao similarly praised the Supreme Court's decision, characterizing it as a historic judgment. He expressed gratitude toward the judicial system for delivering what he termed justice for approximately 600 million people through Justice Surya Kant's ruling.

Hanumantha Rao acknowledged Gandhi's role in bringing attention to the issue and noted that the Telangana government under Revanth Reddy had already completed its own caste survey. He also launched criticism at the Union government led by Narendra Modi, claiming it has obstructed progress and development for backward communities.
