BRS Accuses Congress of Betraying Telangana's Farmers and Vulnerable Groups

Hyderabad: At a rally in Kodad, Suryapet district, on Thursday, prominent BRS leader T. Harish Rao launched a scathing critique of the Congress-led state government, asserting that multiple sections of society have been left in the lurch by broken electoral promises.

The former minister contended that the administration has disappointed jobless youth, students, women, and retired employees. Among the unfulfilled commitments he cited were the promised two lakh employment positions, student fee reimbursement schemes, and a monthly stipend of Rs 2,500 for women.

Additionally, Harish Rao alleged that assurances extended to Muslim minority communities have gone unimplemented. He specifically accused Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of dismantling welfare initiatives that had been established for minorities under the previous BRS administration headed by K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Characterising the government's approach as "big talk, little action," the BRS leader suggested that officials make grandiose announcements while failing to deliver tangible results.

Welfare Funds Not Reaching Intended Beneficiaries

Harish Rao further alleged that resources earmarked under the SC/ST Sub-Plan have not reached their intended recipients. He also asserted that the SC and ST Corporations have provided no benefits since the Congress government assumed office.

In contrast, he praised the earlier BRS government for its development initiatives and irrigation infrastructure expansion, citing the Kaleshwaram project and Phase-2 of the SRSP as examples. He questioned whether Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had managed to channel Godavari waters to Kodad during his previous ministerial stint.

Stark Difference in Paddy Procurement Records

Comparing paddy procurement figures between the two administrations, Harish Rao highlighted the continuity of the Rythu Bandhu scheme under BRS even during the COVID-19 crisis. He noted that the previous government had even arranged special trains from Bihar to transport labourers for paddy stock management during the pandemic.

The BRS leader claimed that his government procured 93 lakh metric tonnes of paddy throughout the COVID-19 period. By contrast, he asserted that the current Congress government has managed only 17 lakh tonnes during the ongoing Rabi season, despite announcing an ambitious target of 90 lakh tonnes.

"While the coronavirus took lives, this Congress administration is dismantling the agricultural sector and making farmers suffer repeatedly," Harish Rao stated, addressing the gathering of party supporters. He concluded by asserting that the BRS party represents the state's future direction.
