Hyderabad's Cyberabad zone has launched a programme enlisting Self-Help Group members to conduct physical audits of civic infrastructure, bolstering the State government's broader 99-day action plan aimed at deepening citizen engagement and strengthening municipal service delivery.

The effort sits within the Praja Palana–Pragati Pranalika framework, which mobilises SHG members as frontline monitors of civic conditions at the neighbourhood level.

Through these audits, SHG members evaluate Garbage Vulnerable Points and assess cleanliness standards across their localities. Their responsibilities extend to tracking streetlight functionality, evaluating the state of lakes and their immediate surroundings, and checking the availability and quality of drinking water. The groups also flag public safety hazards and escalate pressing concerns requiring urgent intervention.

The audit methodology follows a structured approach encompassing planning, ground-level inspections, systematic observation, detailed documentation, cross-verification and formal reporting. Upon completion, SHG members relay their findings to the relevant municipal departments, which then implement corrective measures and service enhancements.

Municipal authorities highlight that the scheme reinforces transparency and accountability in urban governance while creating a direct channel for residents to shape civic priorities. By surfacing local infrastructure gaps early, the system enables departments to respond with greater speed and coordinate interventions more effectively to tackle persistent civic challenges.

Officials emphasise that the broader goal centres on fostering cleaner residential areas, enhancing public safety infrastructure and raising overall living standards through genuine community involvement in municipal affairs.
