CHENNAI – Cognizant (NASDAQ: CTSH) has wrapped up its Technoverse Hackathon 2026, with the grand finale held at its Pune campus. The initiative attracted more than 22,000 pre-final year engineering students from over 450 educational institutions across India's 160 cities, spanning IITs, NITs, and IIITs. Women represented 62 percent of all participants, underscoring the event's emphasis on diversity in technology talent development.

The hackathon embodied Cognizant's strategic focus on cultivating artificial intelligence expertise among India's emerging engineering workforce. To advance gender inclusion, organizers mandated that every four-member team include at least two women. The actual participation exceeded this requirement substantially, with more than 1,100 of the 5,600-plus teams composed entirely of women. Participation was highest in Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Coimbatore, and Pune.

"Closing the distance between AI capabilities and measurable business outcomes depends on growing talent in tandem with technological advancement," stated Rajesh Varrier, President of Global Operations and Chairman & Managing Director of Cognizant India. "The Technoverse Hackathon 2026 represents our response to this necessity. The thousands of students involved and the 62 percent female representation demonstrate that India possesses not just substantial engineering talent but also considerable diversity within that talent pool."

The competition commenced in April and culminated with 24 finalists engaging in an intensive 24-hour sprint to develop and demonstrate their Minimum Viable Products before a panel of specialists. Cognizant collaborated with AWS during this phase to furnish participants with the infrastructure and resources necessary for creating their solutions.

Team AeroFyta from Chennai Institute of Technology emerged victorious, receiving prize money totaling INR 3,00,000. Team Owlgorithms, representing Techno Main Salt Lake in Kolkata, secured first runner-up honors along with INR 2,00,000 in prizes. The second runner-up slot went to Team Devtronix from Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences in Coimbatore, who received INR 1,00,000.

As part of its broader commitment to advancing AI innovation, Cognizant has been actively building internal capabilities across its workforce. The company achieved a GUINNESS WORLD RECORD™ designation last year for organizing the world's largest online GenAI hackathon through its Vibe Coding Week initiative. During that event, company associates utilized cutting-edge vibe coding platforms to develop their artificial intelligence proficiencies, collectively producing over 30,000 prototypes.
