Hyderabad: Another round of price increases for compressed natural gas has hit consumers nationwide, coming merely hours after petrol and diesel rates climbed higher. The latest adjustment adds mounting pressure on both commuters and those operating transport services.

Regulatory authorities pushed up CNG rates in Delhi by Rs 2 per kilogram, continuing a pattern of frequent revisions that began on May 15. The current price now stands at Rs 83.09 per kilogram in the national capital.

The trajectory of increases reveals the rapid escalation: operators raised rates by Rs 2 on May 15, followed by Rs 1 on May 18, then another Rs 1 on May 23, and now Rs 2 in the latest adjustment. Across this 11-day span, cumulative price growth has reached Rs 6 per kilogram.

Transport Sector Braces for Impact

Industry observers anticipate that auto-rickshaw and taxi operators relying on CNG will face mounting operational costs. Many transport providers are expected to respond by revising their fares upward to offset expenses.

The consequences will ripple through multiple segments of society. Daily commuters, office workers, and middle-income households dependent on public transportation stand to face higher travel expenses. Beyond personal mobility, elevated transportation costs typically translate into increased prices for goods and services at retail outlets.

The pressure on consumers extends beyond CNG alone. Concurrent increases in petrol and diesel prices have already strained vehicle owners across the country. Combined fuel price movements are now squeezing household budgets across personal vehicles and public transit systems simultaneously.
