Hyderabad — Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has mandated the immediate acceleration of power substation construction across Telangana, signalling the state's push to strengthen its electricity infrastructure ahead of major development initiatives.

During a comprehensive review of the power sector with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, Revanth Reddy outlined the urgent need for enhanced electrical capacity. Senior officials from the energy department and MP Vemula Veeresham participated in the high-level meeting.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Telangana's emerging industrial zones, high-speed rail corridors, and Regional Ring Road projects will demand robust power infrastructure. He instructed department heads to expedite both planning and implementation timelines.

Revanth Reddy also directed officials to prioritize pending approvals under the Green Energy Policy and fast-track permissions for large data centres.

Solar expansion integrated with substation development

In a coordinated approach to renewable energy, the Chief Minister instructed officials to establish solar power plants adjacent to power substations where feasible. The initiative includes pilot projects targeting two substations in every undivided district outside Hyderabad.

To oversee this expansion, Revanth Reddy ordered the appointment of nodal officers responsible for 18 pilot solar power plants distributed across nine undivided districts, with each district receiving two projects during the pilot phase.

The government will also launch awareness campaigns targeting self-help group women about solar power opportunities and promote public adoption of solar stoves.

Technology and workforce initiatives

The Chief Minister directed the power department to implement artificial intelligence technology to detect supply gaps and enhance electricity distribution efficiency across the state.

Additionally, Revanth Reddy instructed officials to address misconceptions among power sector employees regarding Telangana Rythu Power Distribution Company Limited, commonly referred to as Rythu Discom.
