Citroën Unveils Redesigned ë-C3X Electric Vehicle with Battery-as-a-Service Model for Indian Market

Citroën India has unveiled its redesigned ë-C3X electric vehicle, positioning the model as a significant advancement in making electric mobility more accessible and practical for Indian buyers. The launch represents a strategic effort to expand the EV market by introducing flexible ownership options alongside the vehicle's enhanced capabilities.

The standout innovation driving this launch is the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) offering, developed in partnership with leading financial institutions. This financing structure separates the battery cost from the vehicle purchase price, allowing buyers to reduce their initial investment substantially. Through a dual-loan arrangement, customers can enter the electric vehicle segment with lower upfront expenses while maintaining predictable ongoing costs and greater financial security.

Kumar Priyesh, Director Automotive Brands at Stellantis India, commented on the initiative: "With the all-new ë-C3X, we are taking a decisive step forward in India's electric mobility journey. This is not just a product launch, but a meaningful move to make EV ownership more accessible and flexible through our BaaS offering. Combined with Citroën's signature comfort, bold design and practical technology, the ë-C3X delivers a well-rounded and compelling electric mobility experience tailored for Indian customers."

Design and Practicality

The ë-C3X showcases a bold, SUV-inspired exterior defined by LED headlamps, distinctive split LED daytime running lights, and a prominent front grille reflecting French design heritage. R15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and protective skid plates reinforce its confident stance, while a 170mm ground clearance and compact 4.98-meter turning radius balance highway capability with urban maneuverability.

Inside, the vehicle prioritizes spaciousness and comfort. A 2,450mm wheelbase and 1,375mm shoulder room—described as segment-leading dimensions—combine with a 315-litre boot to accommodate family needs from grocery shopping to weekend travel. Citroën's signature suspension technology has been adapted specifically for Indian road conditions, paired with Advanced Comfort seats engineered for the subcontinent's driving environment.

The climate control system targets India's summer heat, capable of reducing cabin temperatures below 14°C even in extreme conditions. A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, while wireless mobile charging and connected car technology with over 40 features enhance daily usability. Optional additions include a JBL audio system and front and rear dashcam packages.

Safety and Construction

The ë-C3X incorporates a comprehensive safety framework. The platform's floor-mounted battery creates a low center of gravity, enhancing stability during sharp maneuvers. The vehicle features over 60 percent ultra-high-tensile and high-tensile steel construction, complemented by an advanced battery protection system.

Safety equipment includes six airbags, ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution, ISOFIX child seat mounts with top tether, speed-sensitive door locks, and a high-speed alert system. A dashcam-based predictive safety system provides lane departure warning, front vehicle distance alert, and pedestrian/non-motorized vehicle detection.

Specifications and Pricing

The ë-C3X is available in six exterior monotone colors: Polar White, Steel Grey, Cosmo Blue, Perla Nera Black, Garnet Red, and Deep Forest Green. Interior options feature Electric Blu décor with dual-tone Lama leatherette in multiple configurations, or black fabric seating.

Standard pricing begins at INR 10.25 lakhs, while the BaaS option starts at INR 6.89 lakhs plus a battery subscription at INR 2.26 per kilometer. Bookings are now open through Citroën's dealership network and official website.

Citroën, established in 1919, operates across 101 countries with 6,200 sales and service points globally. The company specializes in distinctive urban vehicles like the Ami electric model, alongside sedans, SUVs, and commercial vehicles, most available in electric or plug-in hybrid configurations.
