A Hyderabad court has handed down a five-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to a chain-snatching offender, along with a fine of Rs 25,000.

The XVI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court at Nampally found Muthu Hari Krishna guilty in the matter, which was originally registered at Shahalibanda police station.

According to law enforcement, Krishna snatched a gold chain from a woman in the vicinity of Patarki Dargah on July 24, 2018, before fleeing the scene. Officers from Shahalibanda police subsequently apprehended him and recovered both the stolen gold chain and cash.

Detective Inspector B Narasimha Sanjay Reddy spearheaded the investigation and presented the case evidence in court. After reviewing the evidence, Magistrate G Prabhakar determined the accused was culpable and imposed the sentence of five years rigorous imprisonment along with the financial penalty of Rs 25,000.
