CPI Leader Calls for Swift Justice in Bandi Bhageerath POCSO Case

Hyderabad: Senior CPI leader and former member of the legislative assembly Chada Venkat Reddy has called for stringent penalties in the POCSO case involving Bandi Bhageerath, while voicing concerns over the government's approach to the investigation.
During media interactions, Chada Venkat Reddy emphasised that political clout must not interfere with criminal proceedings and pressed the authorities to proceed strictly within the bounds of law. He underscored that public figures ought not provide protection to relatives accused of wrongdoing, emphasising that the pursuit of justice should supersede political considerations.
Commenting on the allegations, the CPI leader observed that "there cannot be smoke without fire," suggesting the seriousness of the charges levelled.
Chada Venkat Reddy has specifically urged law enforcement to accelerate the pace of inquiry and finalise the investigation without postponement. He contended that the government had not demonstrated adequate seriousness initially, despite the severity of the allegations involved.
The former legislator stressed the importance of conducting a transparent probe and holding accountable all those found culpable.
The case originated when Pet Basheerabad police registered a complaint following a minor girl's statement. During the investigative process, provisions under the POCSO Act were subsequently applied based on the victim's testimony.
The matter has sparked considerable political discourse throughout Telangana, with various opposition figures calling for swift action. Investigators have also served notices to the accused, requiring his appearance for interrogation as the inquiry progresses.
