The Union government has firmly rejected widespread reports suggesting an imminent overhaul of Aadhaar card formats.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued a statement clarifying that no proposal for restructuring Aadhaar cards is currently being deliberated. Officials characterised the circulating reports and accompanying social media posts as inaccurate and misleading, noting that such claims were generating unwarranted public anxiety.

The ministry explicitly stated that the government has not authorised any decision to redesign Aadhaar cards by year-end. In response to the growing wave of online speculation about a major transformation of the system, authorities reiterated that no such initiative exists.

Citizens have been advised to disregard misleading posts and rumours circulating online. The ministry directed the public to seek information exclusively through official channels operated by the Unique Identification Authority of India and the Press Information Bureau.

Media outlets were also urged to exercise caution against amplifying unverified claims that emerge on social media platforms without proper verification.

Aadhaar, maintained by the Unique Identification Authority of India, stands as one of the world's most expansive biometric identification systems. The platform currently serves approximately 134 crore users nationwide and has facilitated over 17,000 crore authentication transactions to date.
