Castrol India Posts Steady Growth in Q1 FY26 Despite Rising Global Pressures
Castrol India Limited has announced financial results for its first quarter ending March 31, 2026, demonstrating resilience across its core business segments even as macroeconomic uncertainties loom.
The lubricants manufacturer, listed on the BSE (500870) and NSE (CASTROLIND), reported revenue of ₹1,545 crore for the quarter, marking a 9% year-on-year expansion from ₹1,422 crore in the corresponding period of 2025. EBITDA grew 7% to ₹329 crore, while profit after tax climbed 4% to ₹242 crore.
The company's performance was underpinned by aggressive expansion into rural markets and a sharpened focus on premium offerings in urban centres. Rural operations posted double-digit growth, with the company extending its reach into village clusters with populations below 20,000. Simultaneously, premium brand initiatives in high-density urban areas generated double-digit increases in both volume and value, with the industrial business maintaining its trajectory of robust growth.
"The first quarter reflects strong momentum as we continue to execute our growth strategy," said Saugata Basuray, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer (Interim). He noted that the company's multifaceted approach had translated into market share gains and validated the underlying strategic direction.
However, challenges are mounting on the external front. Towards the quarter's close, the company observed early signs of pressure from currency movements and elevated raw material costs stemming from geopolitical developments. To navigate this shifting landscape, management outlined a three-pronged approach: calibrated pricing adjustments, stringent cost discipline, and enhanced supply chain resilience.
"We are proactively positioning the business to navigate a more volatile and inflationary environment," said Mrinalini Srinivasan, Chief Financial Officer and Wholetime Director. She emphasised that despite tactical responses to near-term pressures, the company would persist in expanding its distribution footprint and investing in premium brands while maintaining operational agility.
Castrol's physical presence spans approximately 150,000 retail outlets nationwide across general trade, modern retail, and digital platforms. The company operates around 800 company-owned service centres, supported by a network of roughly 34,000 independent two-wheeler workshops and 13,000 multi-brand service facilities. Rural penetration extended to approximately 43,000 outlets, bolstered by 700 Rural Service Express centres.
During the quarter, the company added over 600 new customers, with particular emphasis on mining operations and the electric vehicle segment, including partnerships with a leading EV two-wheeler manufacturer.
Product innovation remained a priority, with the company launching several made-in-India industrial offerings: Magna 2 spindle oil, Spheerol EPL 00 grease, Hyspin AWS 46 HX hydraulic oil, and Techniclean 80 XBC alkaline cleaner. The auto care range was strengthened through new entries including protective shampoo and wax formulations, dashboard and leather treatments, glass cleaning solutions, and motorcycle engine flush products.
A significant development was the signing of a memorandum of understanding with HPCL to jointly explore the development of a re-refined base oil ecosystem within India.
Consumer engagement initiatives gained momentum through large-scale activations. The Spirit of Unity 3.0 rally drew over 3,000 riders, while the #MorePowerToYou campaign engaged more than 500 women riders. The V12 Kakkoor Kalavayal Moto Festival attracted 18,000 attendees, and the Road Trip United initiative mobilised 1,200 riders. The company also launched a corporate film titled Har Boond Mein Desh Ki Raftaar to reinforce its positioning as a driver of national progress.
Digital infrastructure continued expanding, with FastScan, the company's verified mechanic network, growing 30% year-on-year to reach 164,000 participants.
Looking forward, Basuray acknowledged that while underlying business momentum remains solid, the external environment is becoming increasingly unstable. "We remain confident in our strategy and will continue to respond with agility and discipline, balancing near-term actions with a clear focus on long-term growth," he stated.
The company's financial year runs on a calendar basis from January to December.
