Canon Unveils EOS R6V and RF 20-50mm Lens to Empower India's Growing Creator Community

Canon India has introduced a new professional imaging system comprising the EOS R6V camera and the RF 20-50 F4L IS USM lens, marking a significant expansion of the company's video-focused offerings in the Indian market. The announcement comes as India establishes itself as a major creative hub, with diverse production formats ranging from wedding cinematography to regional film and digital-first content.

The EOS R6V represents an evolution of the company's video capabilities, incorporating the imaging prowess of the EOS R6 Mark III while optimizing specifically for filmmaking applications. Key enhancements include an integrated cooling system and a vertical tripod socket, enabling extended recording sessions and native support for vertical content formats—increasingly important for modern digital platforms.

At the heart of the camera lies a 32.5-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor capable of 7K Open Gate recording that utilizes the entire sensor area. This approach provides filmmakers with substantial compositional flexibility, particularly when adapting horizontal footage for vertical distribution without requiring additional takes. The built-in cooling mechanism extends 7K Open Gate MP4 recording to approximately three times longer than the EOS R6 Mark III, accommodating extended interviews, live events, and extended single-take sequences.

The RF 20-50 F4L IS USM lens represents Canon's inaugural full-frame professional L-series lens incorporating built-in power zoom functionality. The 20-50mm focal range addresses both environmental establishing shots and tighter conversational framing, while maintaining a constant f/4 aperture throughout the zoom range. The power zoom mechanism enables smooth, cinematic transitions, with zoom speeds adjustable across 15 configurable levels. A dedicated mode selector permits seamless switching between powered and manual zoom operations, and the lens barrel maintains consistent length during zooming, eliminating the need for rig rebalancing.

The imaging system prioritizes mobility and handheld operation. Both components are compact and lightweight, with the lens weighing approximately 420 grams. A coordinated stabilization system combines the camera's five-axis sensor-shift in-body image stabilization with the lens's optical stabilization and Digital Movie IS, achieving up to 8.0 stops of compensation at the center when working together. Subject Tracking IS mode automatically adjusts stabilization based on subject positioning.

Vertical content creation receives dedicated support through the camera's native vertical format architecture. The dedicated vertical tripod socket provides stable mounting without auxiliary brackets, while the user interface automatically reorients to match the camera's orientation. The compact design with minimal protrusions integrates cleanly with professional rigs and accessories.

For self-recording applications, the EOS R6V incorporates a front-facing recording button and tally lamp. The lens's zoom ring remains accessible from the front of the camera. Remote control options include the Camera Connect app for smartphone-based operation and the new Wireless Remote Controller K544, which offers Bluetooth connectivity with dedicated video shooting buttons and assignable functions. The K544 comes bundled with the K522 portable tripod grip, functioning as both a desktop tripod and selfie stick.

Still photography capabilities remain robust, with the 32.5-megapixel sensor supporting 40 frames-per-second continuous shooting via electronic shutter, matching the performance of the EOS R6 Mark III. In-body stabilization achieves up to 7.5 stops at the center and 7.0 stops at image edges. The RF 20-50mm lens's professional optics are engineered to minimize distortion, chromatic aberration, flare, and ghosting.

For advanced filmmaking workflows, the EOS R6V supports Canon Log 2/3, custom picture profiles, LUT integration, waveform monitoring, and four-channel audio recording via standard HDMI Type-A connectivity. Color filters and slow-motion/fast-motion modes provide intuitive creative tools for visual storytelling.

Tiger Ishii, Managing Executive Officer at Canon Inc. and President of Canon Marketing Asia, emphasized the strategic importance of the Indian market: "India stands at the forefront of a powerful storytelling evolution. From weddings and cinematography to regional cinema and independent productions, creators today demand tools delivering cinematic excellence, mobility, and workflow agility without compromise. The EOS R6V and RF 20-50 F4L IS USM lens reinforce our commitment to this evolving ecosystem through a future-ready full-frame solution engineered for modern production environments."

Toshiaki Nomura, President and CEO of Canon India, added: "By combining 7K Open Gate recording, advanced autofocus, in-body stabilization, and Canon's first-ever built-in power zoom L-series lens, this system delivers cinematic quality, mobility, and seamless workflows in one integrated setup. As creators increasingly seek versatile professional-grade solutions across weddings, regional content, and digital-first productions, we believe this launch will be transformative for the next phase of video creation in India."

The announcement accompanies the unveiling of #IndiaInMotion, a creator-led movement celebrating authentic, cinematic narratives that capture India's diversity, emotion, and cultural dynamism.

Pricing for the new equipment is as follows: EOS R6V body at ₹235,995, RF 20-50 F4L IS USM lens at ₹142,995, and the complete kit at ₹355,995.
