Canon India Secures Exclusive Distribution Deal for Wavesight's HawkEye Body-Worn Cameras

Canon India has forged an exclusive strategic alliance with Wavesight, a provider of integrated video communication technologies and evidence management systems, to bring HawkEye body-worn cameras to the Indian market. The partnership will make these devices available to law enforcement agencies, defense and paramilitary forces, as well as enterprise customers, offering integrated real-time video, secure communications, and digital evidence management capabilities.

The collaboration represents an expansion of Canon India's surveillance offerings, which already encompass intelligent network cameras, AI-powered video analytics, and cloud-integrated video management systems serving campuses, transport networks, industrial facilities, and large organizations. The company's current portfolio covers the complete surveillance spectrum—from precision monitoring and predictive threat detection to investigative support and centralized command center operations.

According to Toshiaki Nomura, President and Chief Executive of Canon India, the country's security environment is transforming, requiring organizations to adopt intelligent, mobile surveillance solutions that support field operations. "Through our exclusive partnership with Wavesight, we are introducing purpose-built body-worn solutions designed for demanding environments including law enforcement, paramilitary operations, workplace safety, and emergency services," Nomura stated. "Backed by local manufacturing capabilities and supported by Canon India's service infrastructure across the country, this collaboration strengthens our commitment to creating a safer and more intelligent ecosystem."

David Saldanha, Managing Director at Wavesight, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, noting that "Canon's established national presence enables HawkEye to provide a straightforward, economical solution for live broadcasting, operational management, and secure evidence handling—critical components for organizations prioritizing transparency and safety."

The market opportunity for such solutions remains substantial, with India's surveillance sector experiencing rapid growth driven by IP-based technologies and expanding Video Surveillance-as-a-Service platforms. Government initiatives like the Smart Cities Mission, combined with urbanization pressures and heightened security requirements, have created strong demand for advanced surveillance infrastructure.

The partnership will focus on high-demand scenarios requiring continuous field visibility and rapid coordination. These include police patrol operations, paramilitary deployments, medical emergency response, workplace safety monitoring, and protection of critical infrastructure. HawkEye integrates with contemporary command centers and evidence management systems, enabling organizations to consolidate field recordings with existing CCTV infrastructure and analytical tools for comprehensive situational awareness.

Target applications span multiple sectors. In law enforcement, the cameras support urban and highway patrols, crowd control operations, traffic management, and specialized tactical situations requiring live video feeds and secure evidence documentation. Paramilitary and defense applications include border protection, counter-insurgency operations, convoy security, and facility protection in challenging terrain, with LTE connectivity to operational command centers. Industrial and critical infrastructure uses encompass monitoring at refineries, power generation facilities, logistics centers, and manufacturing operations, serving safety supervisors, inspection personnel, and isolated workers requiring constant oversight and incident recording. Emergency services applications include fire and rescue operations, disaster management, ambulance services, and utility teams operating in dispersed high-risk locations.

The HawkEye cameras feature high-definition recording with pre- and post-incident capture, ensuring comprehensive documentation. They support instant push-to-talk functionality, live video transmission via LTE, 4G, or 5G networks, GPS location monitoring, emergency notification systems, and onboard AI-powered detection for incidents such as worker falls or extended inactivity periods.

Security is built into the system through end-to-end encryption protecting sensitive audiovisual material throughout capture, transmission, and storage phases. When paired with Wavesight's docking equipment and cloud-based evidence management platform, HawkEye facilitates automated uploads, centralized searchable archives, proper chain-of-custody documentation, incident tracking, lone-worker safety protocols, and comprehensive fleet oversight accessible from authorized locations.

Canon India's extensive imaging expertise and nationwide infrastructure position the company to manage complete HawkEye deployment operations, including system design, integration with existing surveillance networks, field installation, staff training, and ongoing support. The partnership aligns with Canon India's strategic direction of moving beyond conventional imaging into comprehensive safety, surveillance, and operational intelligence systems designed for Indian public and private sector organizations.
