BRS Tables Seven-Point Charter of Demands with DGP Over Karimnagar Incidents

A delegation of BRS legislators met Telangana's Director General of Police C. V. Anand on Friday to lodge a formal complaint regarding recent violent incidents targeting the party in Karimnagar. The party representatives presented a memorandum outlining seven specific demands in response to what they characterised as a breakdown in public order across the state.
The incidents in question centred on attacks against BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy. His vehicle came under assault, and his camp office in Karimnagar was targeted on Thursday. BRS officials described these incidents as symptoms of deteriorating law and order conditions statewide.
The party's memorandum called for Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar to be named as an accused in the first information report connected to the Karimnagar violence. BRS representatives further demanded that separate cases be registered against the minister for allegedly making objectionable remarks directed at party working president K. T. Rama Rao. The delegation also requested enhanced protective measures for the attacked MLA.
The context for the party's concerns stemmed partly from K. T. Rama Rao's visit to Karimnagar on May 4, when he had travelled to the district to meet individuals affected by an armed robbery at a jewellery establishment.
Beyond the immediate incidents, BRS leaders pressed for a transfer of the investigation to a senior police officer deemed impartial. They sought formal statements from the victimised legislator and eyewitnesses to be recorded within specified timeframes. The party also demanded that police stations across the jurisdiction process complaints from BRS members without discrimination or unnecessary delays.
The memorandum included calls for tightened security around party offices and personnel, particularly those facing potential danger. BRS representatives sought both criminal and disciplinary action against Karimnagar police officials, asserting that officers failed to prevent the May 7 violence and subsequently mismanaged the investigation. The party also raised concerns about police handling of the May 4 jewellery shop robbery incident.
In broader terms, BRS urged the DGP to circulate instructions reinforcing political neutrality within police operations and cautioning against the weaponisation of law enforcement machinery for partisan advantage.
