Brown Bear Bakery in Kukatpally Faces Food Safety Action Following CMC Inspection

Hyderabad's Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has initiated enforcement proceedings against Brown Bear Bakery, operated by Bake Max Foods in Kukatpally, following the discovery of numerous food safety and hygiene breaches during an inspection on June 18.

The compliance check was conducted as part of CMC's broader food safety oversight programme in the Cyberabad region. Inspectors evaluated hygiene protocols, food handling procedures, and adherence to established food safety guidelines.

While the inspection team observed that food handlers were appropriately equipped with aprons and hairnets, and that basic personal hygiene practices were being maintained, several significant deficiencies emerged.

Critical Violations Identified

Eggs intended for baking were discovered to be stored without adequate cleaning measures, presenting a contamination hazard. The premises also showed evidence of cockroach infestation, a serious concern for food preparation facilities.

The manufacturing area exhibited structural issues, including uneven and slippery flooring. Additionally, inspectors found that baking trays showing signs of rust were being used in food preparation operations.

The raw material storage section had pigeons present, a condition that could compromise food hygiene standards and product integrity. Finished bakery items lacked manufacturing and expiry date information on their packaging, displaying only batch numbers—a failure to meet mandatory labelling standards.

Enforcement and Next Steps

CMC officials collected food samples for laboratory testing and initiated proceedings to serve a show cause notice to the establishment. The bakery scored 71 out of 92 points in the hygiene assessment, equivalent to 78 per cent.

Management has been directed to enhance hygiene protocols, upgrade storage systems, and implement proper product labelling practices. The corporation has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting systematic inspections across Cyberabad to maintain food safety standards and protect consumer welfare.
