Hyderabad: The Dr B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) conducted a mental health awareness session on Tuesday, marking one of several activities in its ongoing Education Week observance running from May 11 to 17 at the university premises.

Organised under the banner "Innovation, Inclusion, Institutional Excellence and Outreach," the programme aimed to strengthen mental well-being and emotional fortitude among the university community, encompassing both students and teaching staff.

Clinical psychologist Sri Krishna served as the principal speaker at the event, delivering remarks centred on mental health and holistic wellness. He underscored that mental health constitutes a vital cornerstone for human rights advancement and socio-economic development. Sri Krishna emphasised the significance of building emotional resilience, fostering self-confidence, identifying personal purpose, and enabling individual development as integral components of everyday living.

The psychologist further stressed that maintaining sufficient sleep, consuming balanced nutrition, and engaging in consistent physical activity are essential measures for safeguarding both psychological and physical health.

The session was led by G. Pushpa Chakrapani and drew participation from university faculty, administrative personnel, staff members, and students. Attendees included Pallavi Kabde, Rabindranath Solomon, I. Anand Pawar, P. Venkata Ramana, and Prem Kumar.

According to university leadership, the mental health initiative represents a component of the broader Education Week agenda, which seeks to foster academic achievement, ensure inclusive practices, and strengthen community engagement. The programme also aimed to reinforce consciousness regarding psychological health and encourage adoption of wellness practices across the student and staff populations.
