Jaipur Startup Bowler Academy Deploys AI Analytics Platform With Rajasthan Cricket Association

Jaipur — Bowler Academy, a sports technology startup based in Jaipur and incubated at AIC JKLU, has concluded a successful pilot of its artificial intelligence-powered cricket analytics platform developed in partnership with the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA). The deployment represents a significant step forward in adopting technology-driven approaches to player evaluation within Indian cricket.

The pilot programme was implemented across three RCA selection trials: the District Senior Men's Selection Trials held in Nagaur, the Senior Women's Selection Trials in Nagaur, and the Senior Women's Selection Trials in Karauli.

The platform operates using only a smartphone camera combined with artificial intelligence to capture, process, and organize player performances during trials. It automatically produces player-tagged video clips, detailed performance records, and data-driven insights, providing selectors and coaches with objective performance metrics while simultaneously building a structured digital archive of all participating players.

The pilot illustrated that sophisticated cricket analytics can be delivered without the need for expensive equipment or complex technical infrastructure, thereby making performance-based talent identification more accessible throughout grassroots and domestic cricket levels.

Selectors involved in the trials offered positive responses to the initiative.

Anil Sinha, an RCA Selector, emphasized how the platform has influenced the evaluation process. "The step taken by the Rajasthan Cricket Association alongside Bowler Academy represents meaningful progress in cricket scouting and player assessment," he said. "The tracking and analysis system furnishes selectors with concrete performance information, enabling us to assess players with greater precision and uniformity."

Sinha highlighted the transparency benefits as well. "A key strength lies in the transparency the system introduces to selection decisions. Since performance records and video evidence are accessible, both selectors and RCA officials can examine and confirm their choices. This approach ensures that selections rest on actual performance and minimizes the risk of bias or personal judgment affecting outcomes."

He also noted that the system's analytical capabilities can support coaches in recognizing technical elements of bowling mechanics and delivering specific guidance that enhances player improvement.

Poonam Yadav, another RCA Selector, underscored the practical utility of having organized video records and performance data during extensive trials. "This represents an important contribution," she remarked. "When conducting large-scale trials involving hundreds of candidates, selectors frequently struggle to locate and remember specific player performances. Access to player-tagged videos and organized performance information streamlines this considerably and improves dependability."

Yadav added that video documentation enables selectors to revisit performances, pinpoint technical strengths and limitations, and make choices grounded in better information. "Critically, it enhances selection transparency since selectors can reference objective documentation whenever needed," she explained.

According to Yadav, having recorded performance data also helps justify selection outcomes and address player grievances with fairness, fostering a more transparent and professional selection framework.

The successful pilot reinforces Bowler Academy's goal of making sophisticated cricket analytics widely available. Through combining AI technology with smartphone capabilities, the company aims to narrow the divide between community-level cricket and the analytics standards found in professional settings.

With the pilot completed, Bowler Academy is investigating ways to broaden its analytics offerings across player development schemes, talent discovery programmes, elite training environments, and organized cricket competitions.
