Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party has accelerated its organizational machinery for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections following a strategic meeting convened by Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao with divisional leadership and senior functionaries from the corporation's jurisdiction on Tuesday.

The gathering at the BJP's city headquarters in Barkatpura was attended by Rajya Sabha member Rekha Sharma, signaling the importance attached to the electoral exercise.

Ramchander Rao emphasized the need for systematic, disciplined mobilization at the booth level throughout Hyderabad, cautioning party workers against complacency. He flagged that the delimitation process could expand the number of GHMC wards to between 300 and 350, necessitating comprehensive preparedness for elections anticipated in September or October.

Reflecting on the 2020 civic polls, the BJP chief highlighted that his party secured 48 divisions independently despite competing against the combined electoral machinery of the then-ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. He attributed this performance to expanding BJP support among Hyderabad's electorate and noted the party's enhanced parliamentary presence within municipal limits, projecting a strong showing in the forthcoming contest.

A GHMC victory, Ramchander Rao asserted, would serve as a launchpad for establishing a BJP government across Telangana state.

Addressing candidate selection criteria, the party leader stated that nominations would be reserved for dedicated grassroots activists demonstrating genuine community engagement. Internal factionalism and organizational discord would be strictly discouraged. The selection process, he elaborated, would rest on survey data, public sentiment, and electoral viability.

Ramchander Rao underscored that the BJP's central command was maintaining close oversight of the municipal campaign. He called upon party cadres to fortify booth-level structures in all wards.

The BJP chief credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent public rally in Telangana with generating considerable momentum within party ranks and broader public enthusiasm.

In a sharp critique of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Ramchander Rao contended that the regional party had ceased to hold relevance in public consciousness. He further alleged that several former TRS functionaries were contemplating defection to the BJP.

Ramchander Rao expressed confidence that the party would capture all three proposed municipal corporations within the GHMC region and consolidate its position as the preeminent political force in Telangana.
