Hyderabad: Telangana's Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla has pressed for increased participation from private schools in Bharat Scouts and Guides (BSG) activities, following discussions with state BSG leadership at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

As Chief Patron of BSG in Telangana, Shukla received a comprehensive briefing from the delegation led by M. Dana Kishore, who holds the position of Special Chief Secretary to the Governor and state Chief Commissioner of BSG. The meeting also included E. Naveen Nicolas, the School Education Director and BSG state secretary, alongside other senior officials from the organisation.

The delegation presented an overview of BSG's expanding footprint across the state. Scouting initiatives now operate in all 33 districts of Telangana, with approximately 1,200 active BSG units functioning across the state. The organisation has mobilised more than 30,000 students in its scouting programmes.

Dana Kishore outlined the infrastructure development strategy, noting that BSG has been strengthening its facilities through Corporate Social Responsibility contributions and Governor's Funds. Naveen Nicolas highlighted the state government's consistent financial backing for BSG operations and shared ambitious expansion targets: the organisation plans to bring 1,000 additional schools into the fold during 2025–26, with another 1,000 expected to join in the subsequent academic year.

The leadership also revealed plans for a structured activity calendar aimed at establishing BSG units in every school across Telangana. Naveen Nicolas emphasised this systematic approach to achieving comprehensive coverage.

While appreciating the progress demonstrated by BSG Telangana, Shukla encouraged the organisation to intensify its efforts, particularly by strengthening its presence in private educational institutions. He highlighted the role of the State Training Centre in nurturing leadership qualities and fostering personality development among young participants.

The BSG delegation reaffirmed its commitment to extending scouting activities throughout the state, assuring the Governor of continued efforts to reach all communities.
