Mumbai — Bayer has announced significant growth in its integrated digital farming ecosystem, with FarmRise emerging as a major player in India's agricultural technology landscape. The farmer-centric platform now serves over 5 million registered users nationwide, supported by an expanding network of Direct-to-Farmer digital initiatives covering advisory services, insurance products, credit facilities, market access channels and sustainable farming methodologies.

The FarmRise mobile application consolidates essential farming information—agronomic guidance, local weather forecasts, agricultural market prices, government welfare schemes and crop-specific resources—into a single user-friendly interface. Recognizing India's linguistic diversity, the platform operates across nine Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu, with design features tailored for farmers with limited smartphone experience.

By democratizing access to reliable and current information, FarmRise works to narrow the digital gap while enhancing farmer decision-making and reducing reliance on intermediaries for critical farm information.

Building credibility through technology

A notable component of FarmRise is its anti-counterfeit scanning feature, which enables farmers to authenticate product legitimacy directly through the application. This functionality has processed over 10 million scans to date, raising awareness about input quality and reinforcing confidence in genuine agricultural products.

The platform incorporates artificial intelligence to streamline farmer interactions and improve outcomes. An AI-powered chatbot developed in-house and introduced in 2025 responds instantly to farming and crop-related questions in accessible language, reducing the need for conventional advisory channels. The chatbot has addressed approximately 25,000 farmer inquiries, providing scalable access to professional guidance at any time.

FarmRise has demonstrated substantial expansion in user downloads, active user engagement and feature utilization over the preceding 18 months, indicating growing adoption and relevance.

A comprehensive digital framework

FarmRise functions as the primary engagement hub within a larger Direct2Farmer ecosystem designed to address varied farmer requirements throughout the agricultural supply chain.

FarmRise One, an integrated digital marketplace linked with on-ground infrastructure, facilitates transactions for over 500 Farmer Producer Organisations and 200,000 individual farmers. It provides access to agricultural inputs from Bayer and partner networks, financing options from multiple lenders, and connections to quality-conscious buyers, enabling farmers to realize better prices and helping FPOs improve profitability.

Bayer has introduced Alivio, a satellite-powered digital platform delivering plot-specific data and weather-related risk coverage for smallholder farmers. Unlike conventional crop insurance, Alivio provides immediate payouts when predetermined agricultural thresholds are exceeded, allowing farmers to collect benefits instantly at nearby Bayer outlets in the form of seeds and crop protection supplies. The product currently covers select crops including onion and corn, with expansion to additional crops planned for the current year.

The Ask Deena WhatsApp-based assistant complements these offerings by supporting Bayer's Direct Seeded Rice initiative through its DirectAcres programme, promoting water-efficient and resource-conscious rice cultivation approaches. Ask Deena has engaged more than 25,000 farmers across major rice-producing regions.

These integrated platforms enable Bayer to address farmer needs comprehensively—spanning crop management, risk mitigation, market linkages and environmental sustainability—while leveraging digital intelligence and artificial intelligence for customized solutions.

"FarmRise represents more than simply an application; it is establishing itself as a critical digital infrastructure for our farmer engagement at scale," stated Simon Wiebusch, Country Divisional Head of the Crop Science Division for Bayer in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. "For us, technology serves not to displace human connections but to strengthen confidence by merging our agricultural field knowledge with digital and AI capabilities."

Combining experience with technological advancement

Bayer's digital platforms embody its phygital strategy, merging over 160 years of established on-ground agricultural expertise with contemporary digital capabilities. The company maintains robust field operations while expanding digital channels and analytics-based instruments that enhance farmer interactions across multiple engagement points.

As India's agricultural technology sector matures, Bayer's approach illustrates how established agricultural knowledge, enduring farmer relationships and judicious technology deployment—particularly artificial intelligence—can generate substantial, scalable benefits. Through strengthening FarmRise and expanding complementary platforms such as Alivio, FarmRise One and Ask Deena, Bayer continues to underscore its dedication to supporting farmer prosperity and fostering a more sustainable and resilient Indian agricultural sector.
