Azharuddin and Kodandaram to be sworn in as MLCs today

Mohammad Azharuddin and Professor Kodandaram will assume office as members of the Legislative Council following their appointments under the Governor's quota.

The Election Commission released the gazette notification on Sunday, setting the stage for the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 11 am at the Legislative Council office. Gutta Sukender Reddy, the Council Chairman, will administer the oath to both appointees. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, along with several ministers, MLAs, and MLCs are expected to attend the proceedings.

For Azharuddin, today's swearing-in holds particular significance. Constitutional provisions require ministers to hold membership in the legislature within six months of appointment. Azharuddin's tenure deadline is April 30, and by taking the oath today—three days before the deadline—he safeguards his ministerial position from any legal complications.

Professor Kodandaram, meanwhile, will be making his debut in the Council chamber. During the Telangana statehood movement, he served as chairman of the Joint Action Committee and was instrumental in mobilizing public support. His entry into the legislative body is anticipated to bring focus to grassroots issues, particularly matters concerning irrigation infrastructure.

The appointment process faced uncertainty in the preceding days, but Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla ultimately approved the nominations, clearing the path forward. Following the Governor's approval, the Chief Electoral Officer released the official gazette notification on Sunday, enabling today's oath ceremony to proceed as scheduled.
