Axis Bank and BITS Pilani Launch ₹100 Crore Innovation Park in Hyderabad

Axis Bank and the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani have formalized a partnership to develop a major innovation hub in Hyderabad. The two organizations signed a Memorandum of Understanding to create the Axis Bank–BITS Industry Research, Technology & Innovation Park on the BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus, backed by a ₹100 crore Corporate Social Responsibility grant.
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between academic research and commercial application, fostering collaboration among researchers, entrepreneurs, and businesses. The facility will concentrate on life sciences, biopharma, healthcare, and medical devices—sectors critical to India's healthcare infrastructure and technological advancement.
Strategically positioned in Hyderabad, the park capitalizes on the region's prominence as a life sciences hub, particularly through Genome Valley. The collaboration aligns with India's broader policy objectives, including the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) and 'Make in India' initiatives, while addressing the need for affordable and accessible healthcare solutions developed within the country.
The research park will occupy approximately 120,000 square feet and feature laboratories, incubation spaces, and shared facilities designed to support innovators from academic institutions, early-stage startups, and micro, small, and medium enterprises. The infrastructure will facilitate technology transfer, intellectual property management, and provide entrepreneurs with direct access to BITS Pilani's research capabilities and talent pool.
Under the arrangement, BITS Pilani will oversee the park's governance structure and research priorities, while Axis Bank will fund and facilitate infrastructure development.
Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chancellor of BITS Pilani, emphasized the significance of such partnerships in advancing India's innovation landscape. "The Research Park will help BITS Pilani deepen its work in cutting-edge research and entrepreneurship, while also contributing to solutions that can make a meaningful difference to society," he stated.
Amitabh Chaudhry, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Axis Bank, highlighted the bank's commitment to fostering innovation ecosystems. "We believe that the future of inclusive and sustainable progress lies at the intersection of knowledge, innovation, and purpose. Our collaboration with BITS Pilani resonates strongly with our organizational ethos and our commitment to nurturing ecosystems that can solve real-world challenges," Chaudhry said.
V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice-Chancellor of BITS Pilani, described the partnership as a convergence of academic and industrial vision. "The Axis Bank–BITS Research Park will help us build an ecosystem that is interdisciplinary, research-intensive, and deeply connected to society and industry, one that supports faculty-led innovation, nurtures doctoral research, accelerates translation, and prepares our students to solve complex problems at scale," Rao noted.
The MoU signing ceremony took place in Mumbai, bringing together senior representatives from both institutions to formalize their shared commitment to converting research into tangible societal impact.
