Axis Bank Opens First Digital Locker-Focused Branch in New Delhi

Axis Bank has unveiled its first branch designed specifically around digital locker services at Capital Green, DLF Midtown Plaza in New Delhi. The facility represents the private sector bank's latest initiative to modernise secure banking through automation, enhanced security protocols, and a reimagined customer experience centred on sophisticated locker operations.

The inauguration ceremony brought together Shri M. Nagaraju, IAS, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services under India's Ministry of Finance, and Mr. Ashok Tyagi, Managing Director of DLF. Axis Bank's leadership, including Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Chaudhry and Executive Director Munish Sharda, were also present at the event.

India faces a significant mismatch between locker demand and supply, particularly in metropolitan areas. Current projections indicate that approximately 6 crore affluent Indians will need access to bank lockers by 2030, yet the existing infrastructure provides only around 60 lakh lockers. The shortage is especially acute in major cities where residential living increasingly centres on gated communities and premium developments.

Axis Bank's new branch model tackles this challenge through a compact, technology-driven format that integrates secure, automated locker facilities into upscale residential complexes. The redesigned branch layout prioritises urban density while maintaining robust customer service within premium neighbourhood ecosystems.

The facility's core features include a centrally monitored vault with multi-layered surveillance and sensor-based protection systems. Customers benefit from round-the-clock access enabled through biometric and keyless entry mechanisms that eliminate reliance on branch staff. The locker delivery system operates through automation to a private access lounge, guaranteeing confidentiality and operational simplicity.
