Ashoka University Opens Final Application Round for M.A. in Economics and Data Analytics

Ashoka University, a leading interdisciplinary research institution in India, has opened the final application window for its M.A. Economics and Data Analytics programme. The university is welcoming applications from graduates across all academic disciplines for the intensive one-year course, with the deadline set for 26 June 2026.
The programme aims to develop students' capabilities in quantitative analysis, advanced analytics, and data-driven decision-making to prepare them for positions in sectors including finance, management consulting, analytics, government policy, academic research, and business intelligence.
The curriculum combines rigorous economic training with cutting-edge technical skills. To support students entering from non-technical backgrounds, the programme begins with a two-week preparatory mathematics module preceding the first semester. The core coursework covers microeconomic theory, macroeconomic analysis, econometrics, time series analysis, statistical methods, and data analytics fundamentals. Students then progress to specialised courses including Machine Learning Models for Economics, Financial Risk Analytics, Cloud-based Analytics, and Data Visualisation techniques, enabling them to work with large datasets, extract meaningful patterns, and address practical problems across industries.
The programme's design integrates economic analysis with contemporary data science methods. Graduates develop the capacity to evaluate markets, organisational structures, and governmental policies through economic frameworks while building proficiency in econometric modelling, machine learning applications, cloud platforms, and quantitative problem-solving approaches. This combination readies them for roles in data analytics, corporate strategy, financial services, policy development, intelligence analysis, and university research.
Prof. Ashwini Deshpande, Professor of Economics and Head of the Department of Economics at Ashoka University, commented on the programme's relevance: "The most significant challenges facing business, finance, governance, and social development increasingly demand professionals who integrate economic analysis with data-driven insights. Our M.A. programme provides students with robust training in economics, econometric methods, statistical analysis, and data science, enabling them to extract value from complex information and apply findings to real situations. Graduates are positioned for meaningful roles across industry sectors, research institutions, government agencies, and higher education."
Prospective applicants must hold either a four-year undergraduate degree or a postgraduate qualification. While the programme welcomes candidates from varied educational backgrounds, those with prior training in economics, computer science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or similar quantitatively-focused disciplines are particularly encouraged to apply.
The selection process involves submitting applications via Ashoka University's online admissions platform. The university will evaluate applications based on a standardised admission examination. Candidates who advance from this stage will participate in individual interviews, following which admission decisions are communicated. Successful applicants then proceed with enrolment confirmation and onboarding procedures.
Candidates seeking additional information about the programme may visit Ashoka University's official admissions portal.
