Alstom's Joint Venture Wins €107 Million Maintenance Deal for WAG-12B Locomotives at Nagpur

Alstom's joint venture with Indian Railways, Madhepura Electric Locomotive Private Limited (MELPL), has been awarded a five-year maintenance services agreement worth €107 million. The contract encompasses comprehensive upkeep of 250 WAG-12B electric locomotives stationed at the MELPL Nagpur Depot.

The new accord represents a renewal of the partnership's prior four-year arrangement and reflects Indian Railways' confidence in the quality of services delivered by the joint venture. The Nagpur facility has emerged as a model of operational excellence and collaborative achievement within India's rail network.

"This contract renewal demonstrates strong recognition of our dedication to Indian Railways and the effectiveness of our partnership," said Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India. "We remain gratified that the confidence shown in us has resulted in the consistent performance and dependability of the WAG-12B e-loco, which play a crucial role in India's freight modernization."

The WAG-12B locomotives, built on the Prima T8 platform with 12,000 horsepower, support India's sustainability ambitions. These machines can transport 6,000-tonne loads at speeds reaching 120 kilometres per hour and operate across the Dedicated Freight Corridors, substantially boosting freight movement capacity while reducing environmental impact.

MELPL's responsibilities under the contract span complete servicing of the 250 locomotives as well as maintenance of the depot's physical infrastructure. To address maintenance requirements swiftly and enhance locomotive availability, Alstom will position its specialized Prompt Response Teams at key locations throughout the nation, equipped with necessary tools and replacement components. The arrangement also emphasizes Alstom's investment in workforce development through continuous training initiatives conducted at the facility.
