Telangana Agriculture Dealers Stage Statewide Shutdown Over Unresolved Grievances

Fertilizer, pesticide, and seed merchants across Telangana brought their operations to a halt on Monday in a coordinated protest aimed at pressuring the state government to address long-standing sector concerns.
The bandh, called by national and state-level merchant associations and spearheaded by Telangana State president Nagurla Venkateshwarlu, saw widespread participation from dealers operating across districts, mandals, and villages. Commercial establishments dealing in agricultural inputs remained shuttered throughout the day in response to the call.
The Hyderabad Agriculture Inputs Merchants Association coordinated the closure of all affiliated outlets in the city, demonstrating the movement's organisational reach and dealer solidarity.
The protest centred on multiple contentious issues facing the sector. Dealers have demanded resolution of complications surrounding Fertilizer on Link (FOL) requirements and mandatory linked products. The merchants have also sought improved profit margins and greater transparency regarding the regulatory status of HT Bt cotton varieties.
Additional grievances raised by the association include challenges related to managing expired inventory and the procedures governing sample collection activities. Dealers have also objected to severe penalties introduced under recently enacted legislative measures.
Association representatives reported that farmers and community members extended their support throughout the shutdown, expressing appreciation for the coordinated action. However, leaders cautioned that further demonstrations could materialise if the government does not move swiftly to address their demands. The movement, they indicated, would persist until dealer rights and commercial interests receive adequate protection.
The protest concluded without incident after completing a full day of closure across the state.
