Telangana ACB Arrests Irrigation Engineer in Rs 50,000 Bribery Sting Operation

Hyderabad — The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted a successful trap operation on Monday, apprehending an irrigation official accused of soliciting and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
Ganti Srikanth, serving as Divisional Executive Engineer at Palakurthi in Warangal district, was taken into custody following the operation. According to ACB investigators, Srikanth demanded the payment from a complainant at his residence in Bhavani Nagar, Hanumakonda, in exchange for administrative favours.
The bribe was allegedly sought to expedite the recording of final measurements in M-books and facilitate the processing of outstanding bills. These bills pertained to the construction of 10 double-bedroom houses undertaken by the complainant and had been stalled since September 2022.
During the sting operation, ACB officials recovered the full amount of Rs 50,000 from the accused officer. The investigation team characterised Srikanth's conduct as a misuse of his official authority to grant unwarranted benefits.
Following his arrest, Srikanth was produced before the Special Judge overseeing anti-corruption and special public examination cases in Warangal. The ACB indicated that inquiries into the matter remain ongoing, though the complainant's identity has been withheld for safety considerations.
The bureau has called upon residents to come forward with information regarding demands for bribes, directing them to contact the toll-free helpline 1064 or reach out through the ACB's official social media channels.
