Sadashivpet Bill Collector Arrested for Soliciting Bribe to Reduce Property Tax

Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested an outsourcing bill collector working under the Municipal Commissioner's office in Sadashivpet Town, Sangareddy district, on charges of soliciting and accepting a bribe.

M. Nikhil Reddy was caught red-handed at the complainant's residence accepting Rs 15,000 in illegal payment, according to ACB officials. The bribe was demanded in exchange for fraudulently reducing the property tax liability on the complainant's property.

ACB investigators recovered the full amount of tainted cash during the operation. According to the bureau, Reddy had agreed to slash the property tax amount from Rs 1,04,480 to Rs 49,892—a reduction worth approximately Rs 54,588—in return for the unlawful payment.

The case reveals an escalating pattern of extortion. Officials disclosed that the accused had previously extracted Rs 20,000 from the same complainant. During initial negotiations, Reddy had demanded Rs 35,000 for facilitating the property tax reduction.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau has called upon citizens to report instances of bribery involving public servants. The agency operates a toll-free hotline at 1064 and also accepts complaints through WhatsApp, Facebook, and its official website. The bureau has assured complainants that their identities and those of informants will remain confidential throughout the investigation process.
