Abbott Introduces Ensure® Strength Pro to Address Nutritional Needs of Ageing Indians

Abbott has unveiled Ensure® Strength Pro in India, a nutritionally formulated product designed to support the health requirements of adults as they age. The product combines 31 nutrients, including 30 grams of high-quality protein, targeting seven critical areas of bodily function: muscular strength, bone health, cardiovascular function, blood cell production, immune resilience, metabolic processes, and nervous system support.
The launch addresses a significant health challenge facing India. Research indicates that adults experience substantial physiological changes between ages 40 and 80, including up to 33 percent loss of muscle mass, alongside declining bone density and diminished immune function. Additionally, Indian diets frequently lack adequate quantities of 11 out of 25 essential nutrients, primarily due to insufficient dietary diversity across different regions.
Anirban Basu, general manager of Abbott's nutrition business in India, emphasized the interconnected nature of bodily strength. "Feeling strong as we age isn't driven by a single element, it's the result of several functions in the body supporting one another," Basu stated. "Our scientifically formulated Ensure® Strength Pro helps adults meet their evolving nutritional needs, especially in the context of common nutrient inadequacies, so they can stay active, engaged, and confident as they age."
The formulation incorporates calcium, vitamin D, vitamin K, phosphorus, and zinc to support bone maintenance. It contains reduced fat and sugar levels paired with elevated protein content, alongside L-carnitine and B-complex vitamins to facilitate energy metabolism. The product also includes iodine and selenium for thyroid function support, and a comprehensive immune-support nutrient profile comprising vitamins A, C, D, B6, and B12, along with zinc, iron, folate, copper, and selenium.
Dr. Priti Thakor, medical and scientific director for Abbott's nutrition business in India, underscored the changing nutritional landscape with age. "As we age, nutrition plays a much bigger role than many people realize. What the body needs changes over time, and a balanced approach to nutrition can help support overall strength and resilience, beyond just muscle health," Thakor explained.
Abbott's "Power of 7" campaign frames the product launch around the concept that everyday strength depends on comprehensive nourishment across seven interconnected health domains. The company plans to engage healthcare professionals and consumers through science-based communication and educational initiatives to promote informed nutritional choices that strengthen bodies and enhance quality of life.
