HDFC Mid Cap Fund Marks Two Decades with ₹1 Lakh Crore AUM, Delivers 17.13% Annual Returns

BANGALORE — HDFC Asset Management Company Limited, which manages HDFC Mutual Fund and ranks among India's prominent mutual fund operators, has celebrated a landmark achievement as its flagship mid-cap offering completes two decades in operation and surpasses ₹1 lakh crore in Assets Under Management.
The fund's performance through May 29, 2026 demonstrates strong investor returns. The Regular Plan's Growth Option has delivered a compound annual growth rate of 17.13% since its inception, eclipsing the benchmark return of 15.04% CAGR over the identical timeframe. The fund has established itself as one of the largest and most established options within the mid-cap investing space.
The fund's investment philosophy centres on identifying enterprises positioned for expansion and channelling capital into businesses that can drive India's economic development. The approach emphasises disciplined, research-backed decision-making as the foundation for long-term portfolio construction.
Mid-cap businesses typically represent established enterprises within their sectors that are transitioning into fresh growth phases. As India's economic expansion accelerates—fuelled by rising consumer spending, industrial production gains, economic formalisation, technology adoption and deepening financial inclusion—mid-cap firms stand positioned to capitalise on these shifts and potentially ascend to leadership positions within their industries.
"Reaching this milestone—crossing ₹1 lakh crore in AUM while entering our 20th year—represents the outcome of nearly two decades of methodical investing through diverse market phases," said Navneet Munot, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of HDFC Asset Management Company Limited. "The fund has successfully navigated multiple market cycles and strengthened its position, maintaining focus on identifying quality enterprises with genuine long-term expansion prospects. Our investors' confidence and our distribution partners' commitment have been instrumental to this success."
The fund employs a bottom-up methodology for stock selection, concentrating on enterprises exhibiting strong governance, expandable operational models, durable competitive moats and fair price points. This framework seeks to build sustained wealth for investors across varying market conditions and economic phases.
